Daniel Ricciardo Wins 2021 Italian Grand Prix

Ricciardo led from start to finish to claim his first victory since 2018.

Daniel Ricciardo of McLaren won the 2021 Formula 1 Heineken Gran Premio DItalia at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza on Sunday, September 12. Ricciardo started from pole position and led every lap of the race, holding off a challenge from Red Bull's Max Verstappen in the closing laps to take his first victory since the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix.

Verstappen finished second, with Valtteri Bottas of Mercedes completing the podium. Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes finished fifth after starting from the back of the grid due to an engine penalty.

The race was marred by a number of incidents, including a first-lap crash involving George Russell of Williams and Antonio Giovinazzi of Alfa Romeo. The safety car was deployed twice during the race, once for the crash and once for debris on the track.

Ricciardo's victory is his first for McLaren since he joined the team at the start of the 2021 season. It is also McLaren's first victory since the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix.
