Germany become first team to reach Euro 2024 last 16

Goals from Musiala and Gündogan earn 2-0 win over Hungary

Germany have become the first nation to reach the last 16 of Euro 2024 after goals from Jamal Musiala and Ilkay Gündogan secured a 2-0 victory over Hungary on Wednesday.

Musiala opened the scoring in the 11th minute, finishing off a fine team move with a composed strike into the bottom corner. Gündogan doubled the lead in the 55th minute, slotting home after being played in by Musiala.

Hungary had their chances to get back into the game, but they were unable to find a way past a resolute German defence. The result means that Germany have now won both of their opening matches in Group A, while Hungary have lost both of theirs. Germany will now face Portugal in their final group game on Sunday, while Hungary will take on France.
